Dog to Dog Behaviour Problems
in Alnwick, Northumberland
Giving you and your dog the confidence to relax around other dogs.
You dream of enjoyable, hassle-free dog walks whether that be in your local area or further afield when you have more time to explore together. However, you currently find yourselves diving out of the way to dodge other dogs or cutting out walks altogether to avoid feeling worried and / or embarrassed by your dog’s behaviour.
When your dog is barking and lunging at other dogs, chasing down other dogs, or cowering away from them in fear it can make you feel powerless and overwhelmed, especially when all you can do is in the moment is drag your dog away.
With my ‘Dog to Dog Behaviour’ package walks can become pleasurable for both of you. All aspects of the training are designed to empower you and your dog to gain the confidence you both need to once again (or for the first time!) enjoy walks together.
Enjoyable walks for you and your dog
“I highly recommend Julie as a trainer. Charlie is a rescue who arrived accompanied by a number of behavioural problems but Julie is incredibly patient and always knows what Charlie will be able to cope with during his training. He is such a bright dog who loves to learn but his anxiety issues around other dogs and excitable nature can sometimes make training a challenge. The distraction and calming techniques I have learnt from Julie have quite simply changed our lives.”

Julian and Buddy
Buddy is a very handsome Golden retriever who has happily lived with his humans since he was a puppy. However, after being set upon by other dogs Buddy developed a habit of chasing after and pinning down dogs he didn’t like. As Buddy is a large dog, this was not only embarrassing but also concerning, as Julian explains.
‘When we appeared to have an issue with our golden retriever "Buddy" we knew the lady to contact - Julie. We had previously attended puppy training classes which had proved extremely useful so we knew Julie although COVID had stopped us continuing with the lessons. Our dog Buddy had become a little snappy and with other dogs while he had always picked his doggy friends carefully this was new and unwanted behaviour. After speaking with Julie, we embarked on a 12-week course of action, her input has been fantastic. Julie never judged has always offered constructive ideas and comments which has led to a massive improvement with our dog. Julie is a lovely lady who genuinely cares about her doggy clients, it was always a pleasure to meet her. It is an ongoing process but there is a marked difference which is noticeable by others. Julie also rebuilt my confidence which helps the situation. Learning your dog’s body language and what to do in a negative situation has been immensely useful. While Buddy is still fussy about his doggy friends his issues have almost vanished even under provocation and when meeting inconsiderate dog owners. Sometimes help is required and if it is I can say Julie would be my first port of call each and every time’.
With my guidance and encouragement throughout the Dog to Dog Behaviour Support option both Julian and Buddy have worked hard and got their confidence back so that walks together have become pleasurable again. Great teamwork!

It is a requirement for membership of my professional bodies that I only undertake behaviour work on veterinary referral. This is because behaviour problems can arise from currently undiagnosed or previous medical problems. It may surprise you to learn that up to 80% of dog and cat behaviour cases involve pain (Mills et al., 2020). Therefore, before starting behaviour modification work it is important for your vet to first rule out / treat any underlying causes of the problem.

Don’t worry. That’s not unusual, and all unwanted behaviours can be addressed. You may just need to book additional follow up sessions so we can work through everything.
-
Yes, this will be the goal. However, to begin with we may need to choose quieter locations while we build yours and your dog’s confidence around other dogs.
-
No, never. I know from experience that the best outcomes are gained when both ends of the lead are enjoying the training.

Changing your dog’s behaviour requires you both to learn new skills. The more you practice these the more progress you will make. Generally, the longer an unwanted behaviour has been happening, the longer you should expect it to take to change it. However, with my support and the simple techniques you will learn through the Dog to Dog Behaviour Support option you should start see improvements quickly.
