Cat Behaviour Problems

Alnwick and surrounding areas

Changing your cat’s behaviour for the better.

You want a happy, trusting relationship with your cat (or cats) so you can enjoy a good life together. You recognise cats are sensitive creatures with specific needs.

You may be frustrated or worried that your cat is…

  • Toileting, spraying or scratching indoors

  • Being aggressive

  • Eating things they shouldn’t

  • Overly-attached to you

  • Showing fearful, phobic, or repetitive behaviours

Unwanted behaviours are stressful for you and your cat to live with. It can be hard to know how to help when your cat is worried by something. Often their instinct is to just hide away or quickly lash out. With my ‘Cat Behaviour’ package you will understand your cat better and know what to do to change unwanted behaviour.

A stress-free future for you and your cat

“Nothing short of a great experience with Julie from Thinking Paws!

Our cat, Max, had a litter box problem. Julie quickly and successfully diagnosed the issue, offered a variety of solutions and one of them quickly worked for Max. No more peeing around the house! She offered in-person visits, online check-ins and option to send photos and videos.

Furthermore, Julie guided us through cleaning the house, creating bonding rituals with our cat, she helped us discover that he is smart and trainable, and he enjoys puzzle and novelty. She offered a few budget friendly game options, and plenty advise on questions regarding grooming, going out for walks, interacting with other cats and possibility of adopting a friend for Max.

But most importantly, she gave us confidence in our abilities as Max's carers, and brought back the joy of having him when we thought he was just stressed and unhappy. We are very grateful for this professional help and would definitely recommend Thinking Paws to anyone who wants to improve the wellbeing of their pets”.

Alex and Anthony with Luna and Rufus

Luna and Rufus were rescued together from Dubai. They were firm friends, always spending time in each other’s company until a neighbourhood cat startled them through the window resulting in Rufus attacking Luna. Not surprisingly, after this their relationship completely broke down. Luna became afraid of Rufus as he would chase and attack her given the opportunity. Alex and Anthony were very upset and thought their beautiful cats would never be able to live together again.

They did not give up! With the support of my ‘Cat Behaviour’ package, they worked really hard. It took time and a lot of patience, but this is where they are now. ‘I thought I would give you a quick update. Rufus and Luna are together most of the day and evening supervised, and just play non-stop. It’s a huge change and just wanted to say thank you so much for helping us overcome those early hurdles so we could get to this place today.’

Luna and Rufus are a credit to the huge effort their humans made. It was all worth it as you can see them re-united in the photo.

FAQs

Got a question you don’t see here? Send me an email. Please include your phone number.

  • It is a requirement for membership of my professional bodies that I only undertake behaviour work on veterinary referral. This is because behaviour problems can arise from currently undiagnosed or previous medical problems. It may surprise you to learn that up to 80% of dog and cat behaviour cases involve pain (Mills et al., 2020). Therefore, before starting behaviour modification work it is important for your vet to first rule out / treat any underlying causes of the problem.

  • Don’t worry. That is not unusual, and all unwanted behaviours can be addressed. You may just need to book additional follow up sessions so we can work through everything.

  • As each cat is an individual, it is possible that you would need to book a Cat Behaviour Support programme for each cat. Please get in touch to work out the best approach for you.

  • While I would love to meet your cat, if they are out and about or prefer to avoid unfamiliar people I can still show you what to do without meeting them.

  • Yes, remote consultations can work very well for cats. Luna and Rufus are one example of a successful remote Cat Behaviour Support outcome.
